Meet The Team
Rev'd Canon Jem Thorold
Jem was ordained in 2004 in the diocese of Lincoln, and priested a year later in Lincoln Cathedral. He served his curacy in Gainsborough and retired as Detective Constable from Lincolnshire Police in 2007, after 30 years service.
Jem came to the Diocese of Truro in 2007 and was based in St Teath, before moving to Menheniot in 2009, working as a chaplain to Bishop Tim in 2011 and then in Newquay in 2016.
Jem has been married to Sue since 1978, and they have 3 children and 5 grandchildren.
Jem likes to keep fit and walk the dogs. He loves his garden and village life.
Rev'd Richard Wallis
Richard was born in Truro and grew up in Helston and Porthleven, before his family moved up country. He was Ordinand Priest in June 2019. Prior to working within the Five Saints, he worked for the Department of Work and Pensions, The Coop, a Bakery and as a Children and Families Social Worker in London. Richard went to the University of Hertfordshire where he studied a BA(Hons) Social Work. Currently, he's studying BA Theology, Ministry and Mission with Durham University.
Richard current live in Stithians Vicarage, along with his faithful dog Miss Daisy and his ginger cat. He has a particular interest in men’s mental health and suicide prevention. He also supports the Agricultural Chaplaincy at Truro Cattle Market and volunteers as a helper with the local cub pack.
In his spare time, he likes watching Star Trek (TNG, Voyager and Discovery), Dr Who, Family Guy etc. Richard is a life-long gamer - PlayStation and PC, not Xbox. His first computer was a ZX81, then AtariST, SuperNes, GameCube, before PS.
Beth joined the team in 2021 and currently works as administrator for a number of different churches. In her spare time, she enjoys swimming, being musical and playing board games (but not all at the same time...)
